September: Chairman’s message

Speaker  meeting at The Old Vicarage Branston

I always look forward to our Speaker meetings at the Old Vicarage. Liz had arranged an excellent speaker for us all, Becky Williams, Director of Rugby at Lichfield Ladies Rugby Club. She was most entertaining, as she described the highs and lows that the club has experienced over the years and those to come. Her passion proved so infectious that when Becky said she needed 44 to play this Sunday Joan immediately offered the services of the 20 members present!!  Although as far as I know none of us has been called to practice. Becky forwent her Speaker’s fee in return for a small donation to LRC.

We were pleased to welcome Alice Higgins, Chair of Lichfield Ladies Circle, to the meeting and she lit our friendship candle. Grace was said by Viv, and I would also like to thank Liz for arranging such an enthusiastic and interesting speaker, and Pearl  for advertising and organising all our menu requests with the Old Vicarage. Pat gave the vote of thanks and also won the raffle.

In August I took some flowers to Helen on Tangent’s behalf, and we were all so pleased that she could join us on Tuesday although still recovering from her recent surgery. I was also invited to Tangle’s BBQ at Chairman Suzanne’s home, there was masses of food and so much choice, and I was made welcome by everyone there.

Our October meeting is to be a Sharing Evening hosted by Jennie Tipper. Everyone is asked to bring a favourite light-hearted poem or piece of prose, or anything from literature or a song/music recording or a special picture/photo, or in fact anything they would like to share. More details will follow shortly. Regarding supper we have offers for most things, which include salads, apple pies and crumbles, and some quiches. We still need a volunteer to make a meat or vegetarian quiche for approximately ten people, so if anyone can help please let me know.

I hope that you all received  the e-mail that I forwarded from Mac last month. Please contact Mac at mac.cummings@btinternet.com if you would like to attend the lunch at Alrewas Village Hall afterwards.

I am looking forward to our next meeting and sharing all the fun and friendship that is Tangent.
