Floral Demonstration Evening
Our November 5th evening of Floral Demonstrations at Martin Heath Hall was a most enjoyable evening and well attended by our members, members of Tangles, and friends. Pat Brighton made three wonderful arrangements all based on the theme of “Bonfire Night”.
The first was her interpretation of fireworks, the second based on a Catherine Wheel, and the third was the Bonfire. Pat made it look so easy with her amazing ideas, and we all picked up some good useful tips.
Pat is Chairman of Fundraising for Sutton Coldfield Cancer Support Centre, and she explained in detail the valuable work of the Centre as she put together the arrangements. Our donation to the Centre was made up of the proceeds from the raffle together with other contributions.
Our thanks to Jean and Sue for all their hard work organising and preparing for the evening, and to Pat, who not only assisted Pat Brighton, but also read some topical poems. Also thanks to Jenny who collected all our monies, and Jane for organising the raffle of the three floral arrangements. Hazel Mathews won first prize and chose “Bonfire”, Pat Burbridge won second prize and chose “Catherine Wheel”, leaving the largest arrangement, “Fireworks”, for Liz Weatherhogg.
We all enjoyed mince pies, shortbreads, tea and coffee during a break between arrangements.
We are all sad to hear that Bryan Jones has died. I took some flowers on Tangent’s behalf to Dorothy, and joined with Dorothy and her family and many Tangent and 41 Club members on November 8th at Bryan’s funeral. We all send our love and heartfelt sympathy to Dorothy and her family.
We also send lots of love and get well wishes to Hazel Stanton who is in Ward 14 at Burton Hospital after an operation on November 5th. We hope that she will be home again very soon.
Earlier today I attended the Remembrance Service at the National Arboretum in the chilly sunshine, and laid Tangent’s wreath together with those from Lichfield 41 Club, Tangles, Spires, Ladies Circle and Round Table in the 41 Club Garden. Wreaths were also laid by several past National Presidents from the Round Table family. Afterwards we all met at Alrewas Village Hall for an enjoyable lunch organised by Mac Cummings and several 41 Club members. Thanks to all involved in making it such a memorable day.
We are all invited to Tangles Dementia Training Evening on Thursday November 21st at Pizza by Goli, Lichfield, 7.15 for 7.30 pm. Please contact Viv Wyss for more details if you would like to attend.
