Thanks to Pearl for organising all our menus, and to Liz for arranging our Speaker Steve Geale, who spoke on “Stafford Gaol and how to get there”. Steve had taught IT and Maths to inmates for 12 years. He traced the Gaol’s interesting history from its beginnings in the 12th century to 1794 when the present prison was built, and on to present times when it has become the home for sex offenders – Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris to name just two. One of its most notorious prisoners was William Palmer the Rugeley poisoner who was executed there together with other notable murderers.
Roe ingeniously ran our raffle without tickets and prize and Mary J drew out my name. I am looking forward to my surprise at the next meeting. Thanks Roe.
Along with many of you from both our Tangent and 41 Clubs I attended the funerals of Barrie Hopkins and Pat Burbridge in January. This reminded me of the warmth and support of the RTBI family to which we all belong. We all send our heartfelt sympathy and love to their families.
I took flowers on Tangent’s behalf to both Viv and Pauline and we all hope that they will soon feel able to join us again at our meetings. We send them both our love.
