March 2022: Chairman’s Report

Hello Tangent Friends

Our thoughts must go to the people of Ukraine.  It is so sad to see them suffering so much at the hands of a complete madman.  I’m sure, like me, your heart sinks when you see yet more buildings destroyed and innocent lives lost.

On a happier note, it was great to see so many of us on Tuesday at Prego.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it and there was a lovely happy atmosphere.  Those of us on the middle table also got a free blowdry whether we wanted it or not but it did cause some amusement.  I thought the food was excellent and certainly a lovely selection.  It was a pity Jean was unable to make it as Mac has Covid but I understand that the box of cakes that Pearl dropped round cheered him up no end.  David enjoyed his cakes too.

It was lovely to be able to officially welcome Honorary Member Pauline as a member of Lichfield Tangent.  We were both members of Sutton Coldfield Tangent and I have known her for very many years, she and Barry her husband are very good friends.  I have been fortunate to induct three members this year, Jenny, Lyn and Pauline.

Our sympathy and condolences go to Cynthia on the sudden death of John.  I have sent a card and flowers from us all to let her know that we are all thinking of her.

Unfortunately the Midlands Regional Lunch was cancelled due to a burst water main resulting in there being no water at the Arboretum.  Lichfield Tangles worked very hard to keep the ladies entertained who had travelled long distances to the lunch, some staying the night before.  It was very disappointing for them all as I know they had worked extremely hard to make the day a big success.  Fortunately the Lunch has been rearranged for Saturday 19th March.  If you would like to go but hadn’t booked to go on the original date, there are still spaces available so please contact Sue Jay.  I was stranded in Whitstable for several days as the trains were cancelled due to the storms and had to cancel my place, so am pleased that I can go on the 19th.

Our Tangent membership grows but I have to mention the fact that we still need a Chairman to carry on after me.  We also need several other posts, particularly a Meetings Officer to carry on after Pearl.  The AGM will soon be upon us so please give it plenty of thought as without these posts it will be very difficult to organise future meetings.  It might be possible to share some of the posts.  The May meeting is being organised by Deirdre.  We also need a Speaker Finder and, Entertainments and Bulletin, we are about to renew our subscription to the website and need a Bulletin Secretary to follow Sue who has done a super job in keeping us all informed.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the AGM at the Royal Oak.
