January 2020 : Chairman’s message

January 2020 New Year Meeting

A Happy New Year to all our members, although this year has begun with much great sadness for both our 41 and Tangent clubs, the funeral of Start Wyss and the deaths of Barrie Hopkins and Pat Burbridge. We send our love and sympathies to their families.

At the beginning of January, despite the abundance of colds, coughs and flu bugs, seventeen of us enjoyed an evening of chatter and catching up on everyone’s Christmas festivities and activities over a relaxing meal at the Royal Oak in Kings Bromley. My grateful thanks to Pearl who coped so calmly with ever changing last minute attendance numbers, and to Roe for organising the raffle which was won by Jane Hartley.

On Sunday December 29th many of us joined our other halves at 41 Club’s Chair’s Christmas drinks party. Thanks to Andrew and Lyn, our hosts, for making us all so welcome in their home.

On a sadder note Cynthia Tipper and I joined several Ladies Circlers on Friday January 3rd, painting and decorating Dementia Memory and Kindness stones in preparation for Stuart Wyss’s funeral on January 9th.  Of the over 200 who attended his funeral about half were members of the Lichfield Round Table Family – Round Table, Ladies Circle, Spires, Tangles, 41 Club and Tangent, as this has been such a big part of Stuart’s family life. We send our love to Viv, Hannah and Sam.

It has been my sad duty to send news of the deaths of Barrie Hopkins and Pat Burbridge this month. Barrie’s funeral is on Wednesday January 15th at 2.30 pm at Fradley Crematorium, and afterwards at Darnford Moors Golf Club Lichfield. We send lots of love to both Pauline and Hazel. The January coffee morning has been cancelled for this reason.

Pat has been a lifelong member of Lichfield Ladies Circle and Tangent Clubs, but her health has prevented her from attending many recent meetings. We were all delighted that she could join us in November at our floral demonstration evening, and take home one of the arrangements. We will all miss her. Pat passed away on Saturday January 11th, and as soon as I have details of her funeral I will e-mail everyone.

Jennie has asked if anyone would like to take over the Bulletin “Chatter”; please contact her if you are interested.

Diary Dates

February 16th 2020  41 Club’s Ladies Luncheon at The Fairlawns Hotel, Aldridge. Please contact David Dimeloe for more details.

March Meeting – March 3rd  As the majority of you have requested to have lunch before our visit to Lichfield Cathedral, I will forward more details once all has been arranged.

Our next meeting is on February 4th at The Old Vicarage, Branston. Our speaker is Steve Geale who is talking on “Stafford Gaol and how to get there!” Sounds intriguing, so I hope that lots of you will be able to come and join us.
