Thank you to Jean and Sue for their hard work in arranging these events for us.
May’s walk this year was around the Roman heritage site at Wall. The weather had been dismal all day but fortunately it cleared, and we all enjoyed the sunny evening. The serious walkers set off at quite a pace while some of us enjoyed a gentle stroll with plenty of chat.
Thanks to Jennie for planning and leading the walk, and to Pearl for collating our menu choices, liaising with The Trooper and collecting our money. Despite the slow service Pearl did her best to chase up the orders for some extremely hungry walkers! However the wait was worth it in the end. An enjoyable evening with good food, good company and lots of chat.
Roe presented me with the Chairman’s jewel, and I gave the Vice Chairman’s badge to Pat as neither of us were present at the AGM. My thanks to Tangent for the lovely flowers also given to me by Roe.
I have sent cheques on behalf of Tangent, £100 to both British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, our chosen charities for 2018 – 2019 as voted at AGM. I have also sent Get Well cards, again on Tangent’s behalf, to both Mary Jones and Brenda Carter. Mary was in Burton Hospital for several weeks; both are now recovering.
Despite inviting Alice Higgins, Ladies Circle Chairman, Suzanne Woodburn, Tangles Chairman and Beverley Fathers to be our Honorary members this year, I have only had one acceptance so far from Beverley. I understand that Beverley was a member of Lichfield Circle and also Area Chairman, and she is shortly moving back to the Lichfield area.
Sadly we have received three resignations. Chris C, Pat Ball and Anne Parker feel that their commitments prevent them from attending meetings now. We are sorry to lose them, and hope this is temporary.
My thanks to Jennie for producing directories for us all again this year, and to Sue and Jean who have been busy organising a super social programme this year. Of course if anyone has any other fantastic ideas or suggestions of activities or visits, please do let us know.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 4th June, and will be a Pimms and Strawberry evening at Sue Dimeloe’s. Putting in my order for sunshine now!
